Phase Transition from Disorderly Dynamics with Friction to Coherent Frictionless Functioning Example of Superconductor High Temperature Ordinary Conductivity At high temperature one observes a state of ordinary conductivity due to disorderly dynamics of the electrons and a corresponding inner friction. Phase Transition from Disorder to Coherence Low Temperature Super- conductivity At low temperature there is a unique state of superconductivity due to the coherent (harmonious) dynamics of the electrons with a characteristic frictionless flow of the electrons.

The first example of the superconductor shows that it is possible to reduce the disorderly dynamics of the electrons until a clear, marked phase transition takes place and the state of ordinary electric conductivity is transformed into the perfect, coherent state of superconductivity. In particular, the analysis of this example shows that the inner friction within the system suddenly drops to zero—a principle which is highly important when applied to society.

The example of the superconductor first demonstrates that it is the access to the fundamental, holistic or quantum-mechanical level of nature's functioning, and the enlivenment of the holistic qualities at this level, that create harmony and order. Moreover, the superconductor also demonstrates the most important principle of how inner coherent collective functioning of a system results in the ability to defend against external disturbing influences. This is illustrated in the box on the Meissner Effect.

Meissner Effect An Example of Invincibility in the Quantum Physics of Superconductivity ORDINARY CONDUCTOR In an ordinary electrical conductor, incoherent, disordered electrons allow penetration by an external magnetic field. SUPERCONDUCTOR In a superconductor, coherent collective functioning of the electrons spontaneously excludes an external magnetic field, and maintains its impenetrable status. This example of invincibility beautifully demonstrates the general principle of how inner coherent collective functioning of a system results in the ability to defend against external disturbing influences.

The following example of the laser shows, for an open dynamic system, how the enlivenment of holistic quantum-mechanical Laws of Nature results in coherence, or harmony, on the collective level.

Phase Transition towards Coherence Due to Field Effect Below Threshold—Disorder Increase of the Intensity of the Enlivenment of the Electromagnetic Field Phase Transition from Disorder to Coherence Coherent Laser The laser demonstrates how a FIELD EFFECT gives rise to a phase transition from disorderliness to high coherence. In the laser the individual atoms enliven the electromagnetic field (the field of light) and the electromagnetic field reacts on the individual atoms. As long as the enlivenment is only weak, below a critical threshold, the 'laser' has not yet become a real, coherent laser, and the individual atoms still function in a random, disorderly manner. Once the enlivenment of the electromagnetic field exceeds a critical threshold, however, a pronounced phase transition takes place and all atoms join in one coherent collective functioning. (Details of this phase transition have been worked out by physicists including H. Haken, R. Graham, V. DeGiorgio, M.O. Scully.) Then the electromagnetic field, or field of light, is coherent all over the laser and stimulates the individual atoms to participate in the coherent dynamics —the FIELD EFFECT.

In summary, such examples as the superconductor and the laser reveal that it is the access to the fundamental, holistic or quantum-mechanical level of nature's functioning, and the enlivenment of the holistic qualities at this level that create coherence and harmony within a system.

The Principle of the
FIELD EFFECT to Uphold
Coherent Collective Functioning

The laser, as well as other important examples from physics, show that coherent or harmonious collective functioning can be established through a principle called the Field Effect. The principle of the Field Effect establishes that it is not necessary to act individually on each individual constituent of a system, but that the system can be handled in one stroke at the collective level. Therefore, the principle of the Field Effect facilitates the generation of coherence enormously. Furthermore, a Field Effect is characterized by the fact that it is not necessary to manipulate the constituents on the superficial, material level, but rather to utilize the abstract and more powerful level of a Field.

In the case of the laser, this Field Effect is mediated by the electromagnetic field that resonates within the laser. Maharishi's supreme system of defence also utilizes the principle of the Field Effect in order to create coherent collective functioning in society—however, it utilizes the Field Effect at the most fundamental level of Natural Law and therefore is extremely powerful in establishing coherent collective functioning in society.
